Dr. George Bulazo Jr.

May 19, 1924 - September 2, 2013

On Monday, September 2, 2013, Dr. George, Jr., age 89, of South Park Twp. formerly of Masontown, West Newton, Troy, and Mercer, PA. George (Doc to many) graduated from Masontown High School, worked as a coal miner, then served in the Pacific in WWII with the 5th Air Force, earning three Bronze Stars. He then graduated from Waynesburg College, and became head football and basketball coach, and principal at West Newton High School. He went on to earn his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and enjoyed a successful career as an innovative educator. He loved his time in Mercer, Pa, where he worked as the Assistant County Superintendant of Schools and for the state of PA, developing long-range plans from many school districts in Western Pa. He then became Superintendant of South Park School District and eventually retired as Superintendent of Ringold School District. He was the beloved husband of the late Monna (Kobasa) for 62 years; father of Roxanne Watts, George Bulazo, III and the late Lydianne Bulazo; grandfather of Trent Watts, Russell Watts and Suzanne Bulazo Neidig; great-grandfather of Kaylie-Anne Neidig; brother of John, Andrew, and Stephen Bulazo, Roberta Tabacek and the late Mary Kruth, Michael and Paul Bulazo, Anne Rhodes, Elsie Rantovich & Helen Alex; also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends received Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at the GRIFFITH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, Broughton-Curry-South Park Twp., with additional visitation Thursday 9 a.m. at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Monogahela, followed by a Funeral Service in church at 10 a.m. Interment Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick, PA.
