Aldonna T. (Simon) Barner

On Friday, June 5, 2015, Aldonna T. "Donna" (Simon) Barner, age 82, of South Park passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Earl M. Barner; loving mother of Susan M. McCartan of Finleyville, James M. (Denise) Barner of Finleyville and Lisa (Ron) Barner-Wolk of Bridgeville; grandmother of Jeffrey, Jessica, Jacqlyn, Molly and the late Jennifer Brennfleck; great-grandmother of Angie, Bryan and Aiyana; sister of Geri (Cliff) Todd and the late Margaret (Tom) Brickett; also survived by nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Donna (lovingly called Gram, Grammy, Mom, Mum, Mrs B, and "little Go-Bunny") lived every day with passion, zest and energy. She was a pillar of strength & principle with deep and boundless love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren "the apples of my eye" and her family pets (Pia the devil cat, Thumper the Boxer and Willow the Pug). Donna loved spending countless hours gardening in her "no maintenance" beautiful yard, vacationing, spending time in the Laurel Mountains at the family cabin, daily visits to her local Dollar store, actively participating in the St Casimir's Alumni Association and the occasional pull on the slot machine arm. After the loss of her beloved husband Earl in 1995 Donna fought on and found new purpose at the Franciscan Child Day Care Center in Castle Shannon (from which she just recently retired) where she nurtured, cared for and fell in love with all of the beautiful children under her watch. She touched ours and many other lives and for that we are deeply blessed and grateful. Friends received Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the GRIFFITH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, South Park Twp. (412) 655-4600. Funeral prayer Tuesday 11:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Nativity Church at 12 pm followed by burial at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
